Computers run nearly every part of business today. From scheduling meetings and processing invoices to managing records and handling correspondence, digital tools are everywhere—and someone needs to know how to use them well. CDE Career Institute’s PC Applications program helps you become that person.
The PC Applications program is a 300-clock-hour diploma program that teaches the keyboarding, Windows, and Microsoft Office skills used in today’s business offices. It is delivered online through the Tannersville, PA main campus and can typically be completed in about 13 weeks. Whether you want to support a busy team, keep records organized, or simply build confidence with everyday office software, this training gives you a practical foundation for an entry-level office career.
Why Computer Application Skills Matter
While some people assume everyone “just knows computers,” the truth is that most workplaces rely on employees with focused training to keep things running. Knowing how to write a quick email isn’t the same as building a spreadsheet with formulas, formatting a professional document, or organizing files so an entire team can find them.
This program covers the everyday software skills employers expect—and the ones that help you stand out.
What You’ll Learn in the Program
The PC Applications curriculum focuses on practical, real-world software skills across 300 clock hours, including:
- Microcomputer keyboarding—building speed and accuracy, with graduates reaching at least 35 words per minute
- The Windows operating system and file management (Introduction to Windows and Managing Windows)
- The Microsoft Office Suite—Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook—the largest part of the program at 210 hours, plus an introduction to database management and email
- Job readiness skills to help you prepare for the workplace
Each course is designed to build confidence, reduce tech frustration, and prepare students to handle common business-office tasks. No prior computer experience is required, and instruction is geared toward beginners.
Where These Skills Can Take You
Graduates of the PC Applications program are prepared for entry-level positions in business and office settings. Job titles associated with these skills include, but are not limited to:
- Administrative assistant
- Data entry operator
- Receptionist
- Office clerk / general clerical
- Word processor
- Secretary
- Information processing technician
Because these roles exist in nearly every industry, graduates can find opportunities in fields ranging from healthcare and education to finance and public service. Students who want to keep learning can use this foundation to independently pursue the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification; the program builds the underlying skills but does not include the certification exam.
While CDE Career Institute actively assists students in their job search, we cannot guarantee employment to any student. If local employment opportunities are not available, relocation may be necessary.
Who Should Consider This PC Applications Program
This program is a good fit for:
- High school graduates (a high school diploma or GED is required for admission) who want a focused path toward office work
- Adults looking to change careers or re-enter the job market
- Anyone who wants to improve their confidence using computers in a professional setting
No advanced knowledge is required to begin, and no prior computer experience is necessary. The program is structured to support beginners, with instructors providing hands-on guidance.
