Office Administration Career Training
Tannersville & Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania
What is it?
As the reliance on technology in business continues to expand, the role of the Office Professional has greatly evolved. Office automation and organizational restructuring have led secretaries and administrative assistants to assume responsibilities once reserved for managerial staff. Many secretaries and administrative assistants now provide training and orientation for new staff, conduct research on the Internet, and operate and troubleshoot new office technologies. Small to mid-sized corporations are also seeking Office Professionals who have been through a certificate program and who have financial skills such as accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll to assist with the financial aspects of running a business.
In spite of these changes, however, the core responsibilities for secretaries and administrative assistants have remained much the same: performing and coordinating an office’s administrative activities and storing, retrieving and integrating information for dissemination to staff and clients.
Why choose this field?
According to statistics from the U.S. Bureau of Labor, secretaries and administrative assistants held about 4.1 million jobs in 2006, ranking among the largest occupations in the U.S. economy. This field is scheduled to grow by 15 percent from 2006 to 2016.
